Brydie R. Alsbrook was born about 1914 in Kansas City, Kansas. After graduating from Sumner High School, she entered the Horace Mann Teacher Training Course after which she attended Pittsburg State Teacher's College (Pittsburg, KS), where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree. She went on to earn a Master of Science degree from the University of Missouri, Kansas City. For over 30 years, Alsbrook worked as an elementary teacher in both Kansas City, Kansas and Kansas City, Missouri....

The Church of the Ascension of Kansas City, Kansas was organized May 10, 1904 with Henry Bartholomew Brown as lay reader. Early in 1906, the body was reorganized and the name Ascension adopted, possibly because this reorganization occurred around Ascension Day. At this time, services were held in member's homes and the Knight of Tabor Hall; Ascension obtained its first church home in 1907.
